Impersonality

Posted by MarkJason On April - 16 - 2010ADD COMMENTS

Marisol, a long time friend and mentor had asked me to take some photos of her New Genre & Site Specific class at Southwestern College. I took this class maybe 4 years ago, and I loved it. We went on trips to different museums here and up north and did lots of installations within SWC and out for the community, I had the best experience and I wanted to give the students a great experience with their photos. Full size Resolution photos are available on my Flickr, link on the right. Enjoy.

The Barbie: Details: Student: Jessic.a digitally manipulated onto or should I say into a photo of the box.

Jack Black: Details: Student: Andrew. His photo consists of 3 parts head/ torso, hand, and legs, all pieced together and superimposed on the wallpaper of the Pick of Destiny movie poster he requested.

Clockwork Orange: Details: Student: Kalen. She wanted to recreate the classic novel/movie cover. Simple edits and digital media for the ‘eye’ she longed for.

The Most Incredible Man In the World. Details: Student forgot his name. Great make up and character. Simple lighting, the rest was done in photoshop.

Ron Jeremy: Details: Student: Patrick. Simple lighting on a red drape one of the first photos I took that day.

Japanese Rebel Schooler: Details: Student: Andrew. Bare flash, shot low. Arranged manga style.

La Pieta: Details: Student Sabrina. Just wow. Completely covered in Slip (Clay/water) Freezing cold and heavy drapes. Great work. The pedestal was the deal breaker.

All the photos were shot with just one speedlite through shoot-thru umbrella by and edited by me

There were other impersonations, however; I was not able to shoot them all as there were other photogs (students? nubs?  i was trying to give them advice and they shruged me, they had like 3 alien bees all on 1/32 power with umbrellas facing the other direction, teacher whereabouts?) The other students who shot with them weren’t as pleased and wished they shot with me =D

Exposed.

Posted by MarkJason On March - 18 - 2010ADD COMMENTS

Had fun helping out Grise with her “Exposed” Project for her performance art class @ UCSD. We just used a flood light, flashlight, reflector, and a projector. G9 controlled all the lighting and I got some great footage as well as some statics. Here’s a shot I edited with LR2 a bit.

And her compiled final version uploaded on youtube:

Playing Catch-Up

Posted by MarkJason On March - 1 - 2010ADD COMMENTS

Its been a while since my last entry and I have done lots! Here’s a quick Re-Cap:

2009

Xmas – Double Christmas once again. G9′s cousins theme “Ugly Xmas Sweater”

New Years – Family, Food, Countdown, Food, Crash, Food.

January 2010

2 – Bought a  New Dell 22″ IPS monitor – This this is a beast the colors are crazy accurate and has 179 degree viewing angle, Did I mention it’s an IPS Panel? Sweetness

8 – Great scenic bike ride with my Love through University Heights. There are some cool pix from this album, ill post to flickr soon.

9 – The C/Y (Contax/Yashica) to EOS (Canon) Mount came in from HK, The AF confirm works, and works surprisingly well with my old yashica lens as well as this prestine 50 1.7 I picked up at the Salvatation Army for 20 bucks.

13 – G9 got a tank and beta, her first fish for her place. She named him ” 프린스 “  Prince in Korean. Heaven Sent afterwards.

16 – Setting up G9′s Sister’s Beta Tank. G9′s Nephew, Kris named their Beta, “Georgie” along with “Nemo” the clown fish decoration. As well a surprise early birthday visit from Faith and John for G9. Took them to Heaven Sent, John had a bad case of Sugar Overload.

17 – Happy Birthday G9 @ Lips – Thanks for all the help with the surprise guys! It was a Great Black Gospel Brunch!

22 – My first go @ Shooting Lightning. I still need lots of practice and more storms would help too, but please not anytime soon!

28 – Dinner with the Couple’s (Jes, Fil, Cat, Jason, G9 & I) and Ray at Phil’s BBQ

February 2010

2 – Cracked the back of the glass on my camera, no LCD damage, and pictures are still Crisp and Clear thank god. I had it on the blanket of my bed, blanket pulled, camera fell from bed to leg of computer chair, not even 2 feet high, Boom. I learned my lesson, I’m not going to leave it out of the bag again.

4 – Spur of the moment Drive to Julian for some PIE with G9, Kat and Kris. Fresh Hot Apple Cider was the Best.

14 – Valentine’s – Tofu House Lunch, the rest is History…

22 – Dinner at Bombay with Alison’s Mom, “All you can Eat Buffet today!?” We lucked out, we’ve been there before but never for Buffet, Food was soo good!

2010 Calendar for Isabel’s Mom

Posted by MarkJason On December - 23 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

Isabel and I practically lived a few houses away, although we never got a chance to hang out when we were younger, I had a blast helping her with her Mom’s Christmas Gift! I Had some minor setbacks like a broke lens the day before which I had to rent as well as the venue I wanted was closed! Ahhh, you live and learn and learn to have back ups! We ended up in Little Italy, there were Holiday decor and neat contrasting alleys and walls. I see why lots of people go here to shoot. Here’s a peek  xD.

Art Relief Concert 2009

Posted by MarkJason On November - 7 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

Art Relief 2009!
Togther we raised 3500+ dollars! Great music from very talented musicians and poets.
AJ Rafael was pretty good. I really liked The Adrian William Project gotta get their CD. Cathy Nguyen is a beautiful talent. My girlfriend got a picture with her “crush” RuSoul and he performed well and we all had a great time with a huge turn out. Although we didn’t sell any art, I don’t think anyone did really it was more like the T-Shirt vendors were getting sales. I did get some requests about my crushed can heart design and making them into shirts. So we’ll just have to see if I have the time to get another screen made so I can re-print that design on some shirts for you guys!
